Al-Andalus International Schoole, designed by AY Architects, stands as a pioneering educational facility in Jeddah. The school merges traditional Hejazi architectural elements with modern design techniques to create an environment that is both culturally rich and conducive to modern educational practices.
The design of Al-Andalus International School is characterized by its innovative use of rawasheen, which have been adapted into the school’s façade using sustainable materials that reduce heat gain while maximizing natural light. The school buildings are arranged around a central courtyard, a staple of traditional Hejazi design, providing a communal space that fosters social interaction and community activities.
Inside, the classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, housed within interiors that feature geometric patterns and arabesque designs typical of Hejazi artistry. This blend of old and new continues throughout the space, with modern furniture and fittings that meet the ergonomic needs of students while reflecting traditional aesthetics.
