Project Context

Set in Porto Palma, Sardinia, A Spectrum enjoys a prime location near both the sea and the surrounding topography. The site provides residents with panoramic views of the sea, while the elevated design ensures privacy and minimizes interaction with the natural tides. This thoughtful placement not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures that the building complements the natural landscape.

Design Concept

The concept behind A Spectrum is centered around the idea of transition, symbolizing the journey of life. The architectural design reflects three key phases: a fully functional living phase, a relaxing phase, and a transition phase. These phases are woven into the structure, providing spaces for living, contemplation, and rest. Inspired by the natural environment and the reflection of life, the design incorporates light, materiality, and spatial transitions to evoke a sense of peace and belonging.

Use Of Materials

Rammed earth is the cornerstone of the design, chosen for its natural aesthetic, durability, and environmental benefits. The rammed earth walls are reinforced with steel rebar, offering structural stability while maintaining a natural, earthy look. In addition to rammed earth, the project employs a mix of materials, including:

These materials are carefully chosen to work in harmony with each other, creating a balance between modern innovation and timeless natural beauty.

Architectural Features

  • Elevated Structure: The building is raised above the ground, creating shaded areas on the beach and reducing the environmental impact on the landscape. This design also enhances the beach space for residents, offering more usable area beneath the structure.
  • Natural Light Integration: A skylight with prisms is incorporated into the design to allow natural sunlight to permeate the building, creating atmospheric sensations throughout the day. This feature symbolizes the connection between the different phases of life, as light passes through the structure, creating a dynamic interplay of color and shadow.
  • Terraces and Open Spaces: The building’s terraces overlook the sea, offering expansive views and providing spaces for relaxation. These areas are designed to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor living, enhancing the residents’ connection to nature.

Project Result

A Spectrum stands as a testament to modern architectural design that respects and enhances its natural surroundings. Through the innovative use of rammed earth, thoughtful material choices, and a design concept inspired by life’s transitions, this residential building offers a unique living experience that harmonizes with the environment. With stunning views, sustainable practices, and a connection to both nature and the human experience, A Spectrum sets a new standard for residential architecture.
